i don’t write blogs
In my profession, I see people write blogs a lot – written by deep thinkers, those that are really passionate about a particular subject, are experts in their field, or they’re someone who really likes to teach… I don’t think I am any of those.

I know I’m quite good at what I do. I’ve been doing it for a long time. I’ve helped people over the last 16 years and hope to help many more in the future. I’ve recently opened a new practice in the Melbourne CBD – hired a few younger osteopaths and thoroughly enjoy having them around.
Having this new practice has meant, for the first time in my career, that I’ve had to think about how to market. We’ve done the obvious – great location, good signage, have a functioning website and taken on advice from some marketing experts – advice that includes writing a blog!
The problem is, what would I write about?
I know I’m good at telling stories, I talk all day and subject my clients to some terrible dad jokes. I give little bits of advice, get people better and love networking and building relationships with those that I cross paths with. I’ve just never been inspired to write blogs, especially about what I do for a job – but how about writing down my story?
As I type this (at 9.31pm on a Saturday night), a good mate of mine, Ryan, is riding his bike down the Falls Creek mountainside. My phone says it feels like 7.3 degrees celsius where he is. He’s out there riding his bike from Perth to Sydney, in the freezing cold and I’ve finally been inspired to write… to blog… and to plan my own ride.
Having a close friend so focused, so driven, raising money for charity (the love me, love you foundation) and completing such an impressive feat is finally giving me the drive to do something big myself. I’ll set the goal, I’ll overcome the hurdles and I’ll achieve a physical feat that I had never even dreamt of.
I have a wife, we’ve 2 beautiful daughters, 2 dogs, 2 practices, a new business about to start and a house to renovate. I’ve also got advanced arthritis in my left hip, my right hip isn’t great either, but will that stop me? Hopefully not. I’ve a booking with a hip surgeon in May to get some more answers, but there will be no excuses.
I hear excuses a lot in my line of work, so we can talk about those too. We can talk about injuries, diet, life, children, work, stress and anything else that comes to mind. Hopefully this will all inspire you to do something you never thought you would, like my mate Ryan has to me.
He has got me to blog….
